The Japan Sumo Association has announced that it has newly commissioned two members, the actor Misako Konno and the former Deputy Minister of Education, Yasuko Ikenobo, as members of the Yokozuna Deliberation Committee.
This is the first time that there are two female committee members.
The Japan Sumo Association held a board meeting on the 31st and decided to commission Mr. Konno and Mr. Ikenobo to the members of the Yokozuna Deliberation Committee.
Mr. Konno was a member of the Sumo Association's Council of Experts, and Mr. Ikenobo has served as a councilor of the Sumo Association.
The Yokozuna Deliberation Committee is an advisory body of the Japan Sumo Association that deliberates on the promotion of yokozuna, and Makiko Uchidate was the only female member for nearly 10 years until 2010, but Makiko Uchidate is the only member of the committee. After finishing, there was no female committee member.
