The Cameroon national football team completed the contract for African seats in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after its valuable and dramatic 2-1 victory over its Algerian host in the second leg of the final round of World Cup qualifiers.

The Algerian team defeated its Cameroonian counterpart, 1-0, in the first leg last Friday, while the Cameroonian team won 2-1 at its Algerian host, Tuesday evening, to qualify for the “Untamed Lions” team, with a legal goal, after the two teams tied 2-2 in the total of the two matches.

The Cameroonian team settled the original time in the second leg in favor of a clean goal scored by Eric Maxime Choupo-Moting (22) but Ahmed Touba scored the equalizer for the hosts in the 118th minute after the two teams resorted to extra time before Karl Toko Ekambi scored the winning goal and qualified for Cameroon in the fourth minute of the time stoppage time for the second overtime period.

The Cameroonian national team is playing the World Cup for the eighth time in its history to enhance its record as the most African team to reach the World Championship, knowing that the best result of the team in its previous World Cup participation was in the 1990 version in Italy when it reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Cameroon has become the 27th team to reserve its place in the World Cup.

The qualified teams are:

  • Qatar national team representative of the host country.

  • Continent of Europe: Germany, Denmark, France, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, Serbia, England, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Portugal and Poland.

  • South America: Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay.

  • Asia: Iran, South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

  • Africa: Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco.

  • CONCACAF (North America): Canada.
