A defensive crisis in the Egyptian national team before the return match against Senegal

Egypt will lose the efforts of the two main defenders, Mahmoud Hamdi (Al Wensh) and Mohamed Abdel Moneim, in the visit to Senegal to play the second leg of the decisive role in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers when it seeks to confirm its 1-0 advantage in Cairo.

Al-Ahly defender Abdel Moneim was injured in the nose during Friday's match, and he was replaced by his teammate, Yasser Ibrahim, in the first half.

He will undergo surgery to confirm his absence from the trip to Dakar.

As for Al Wensh, the Zamalek defender, he is absent for suspension after receiving a warning due to objecting to the referee’s decision.

With this, the defensive problems of coach Carlos Queiroz's team were renewed in the absence of the pillar, Ahmed Hegazy, player of the Saudi Federation, since he was injured in the African Nations Cup about two months ago.

"We will not go to Senegal with only two defenders (Yasser Ibrahim and Mahmoud Alaa) and we will call another defender (at least from outside the squad) to travel," Queiroz told reporters after the match.

And local media reported that Queiroz will include Ali Jabr and Ramy Rabia from Pyramids and Al-Ahly.

Jabr, 33, was a key element in the national team during the coaching period, Hector Cuper, and participated in the 2018 World Cup, while Rabia was plagued by injuries during a long period of his career, and his last international match was five years ago.

Ayman Ashraf, the Al-Ahly player, is also good at playing the central defender, as well as playing as a full-back and in the midfield, but he will most likely not start Tuesday's match.

A draw away from home is enough for Egypt to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar for the second time in a row and the fourth in its history.
