Real Madrid confirms Hazard will be absent for an indefinite period due to surgery

Real Madrid, the leaders of the Spanish Football League, confirmed yesterday that Belgian international winger Eden Hazard will undergo surgery on his right leg.

“In the coming days, Eden Hazard will undergo surgery to remove the bone fixation plate in his right leg,” the royal club said in a brief statement, without specifying the period of his absence from the stadiums.

The 31-year-old international, who was not included in the Belgium squad during the current international break, has suffered a series of injuries over the past two years, and according to the local press, more than a year ago Hazard complained of discomfort due to the installation plate.

And the Spanish daily Marca claimed that Hazard wanted to undergo surgery last year to get rid of the problem, but he failed to reach an agreement with the royal club.

The Belgian underwent surgery in the United States in March 2020 for an incision in his right leg, after he sustained a delicate fracture in his right ankle after a contact with fellow French defender Paris Saint-Germain at the time, Thomas Meunier during the two teams’ meeting in the Champions League on November 26, 2019.

After he was absent for three months, the injury curse followed Hazard again after he sustained an injury to his right foot on February 22, 2020 during a match against Levante in “La Liga”, to undergo surgery in Dallas.

Hazard moved to the capital, Madrid, from Chelsea, in 2019, and won the Spanish League title in his first season in Spain.

But the former French Lille player did only 65 games with Real, during which he scored only six goals, while he played 352 games with Chelsea and scored 110 goals over seven years.

He won the English Premier League twice and the European League twice, in addition to the National Cup and the League Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.
