4 Chinese players punished for not doing enough!

The International Badminton Federation has punished four Chinese players for violating anti-cheating rules, after they were suspected of not doing their best in a doubles match, it was announced Friday.

The International Federation said He Yi Ting, Tan Qiang, Lee Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen were given a three-month suspended ban and two years probation.

If a similar offense is repeated within these two years, the suspension will become effective.

The offense occurred during the 2018 Fogo Chinese Open, when duo Li and Liu faced off with He and Tan in the men's doubles quarter-finals.

Another player watching the match alerted the referees due to suspicions that the four players had not done their best to win the match.

During one of the matches, the referees urged the players to put in more effort, and the performance improved significantly and she and Tan were able to defeat their higher ranked opponents.

The Badminton Regulatory Authority filed a complaint.

After a lengthy investigation, a panel found that the players had violated the rules intended to combat cheating by not doing their best to win the match.

Two other charges were dropped, one of which was attempting to tamper with the outcome of the match, due to insufficient evidence.

The four players denied all charges against them.
