SVT Sport has in several rounds in recent weeks reported on the storm around Johan Storåkers.

It took off when it was revealed that during his time as chairman of Stockholm Athletics, he had received more than SEK 600,000 - despite the fact that the assignment was basically non-profit, and that the rest of the board was not informed of his fee.

Olympic gold medalist critical

SVT Sports 'revelation stirred the emotions in Athletics Sweden, and as recently as Monday it became angry when the Swedish Athletics Association had a digital meeting where those who are nominated to the board before Saturday's annual meeting had to answer the annual meeting delegates' questions.

Now further heavy athletics profiles emerge and demand Storåker's resignation.

One of them is the former high jumper Stefan Holm, who during his active career took Olympic gold in Athens in 2004, and four World Cup gold medals indoors.

- From what I have read, it feels like it's time for a new chairman, he says to SVT Sport.

Do you think so?

- Yes.

I do not know who will take over, because I do not have a good name.

But somewhere it feels like trust has been exhausted.

- It should be a position of trust, and if you get money for it, it will be strange, as well.

And I do not think he has been able to clarify what he was paid for.

I do not think you get a really good answer to what really happened, and why, says Holm.

"Respect for everyone's opinions"

Johan Storåkers regarding Stefan Holm's critique:

- I have respect for everyone's opinions.

But there are also many active people, both current and former, who have contacted me and said that I should definitely not resign, but continue my hard work.

So there are different opinions in a popular movement, and I have to respect that.

Received an email from the national team leader

Another athletics profile who wants to see Storåker step off is Lorenzo Nesi, who is the national team leader for road and off-road running.

Earlier this week, Nesi sent an email to, among others, Storåkers and the union's general secretary Stefan Olsson, in which he writes that he believes that Storåkers should step down from his position.

"Johan, if you have any conscience at all, you take your responsibility and refuse re-election as chairman of Swedish Athletics," he writes.

"Consumed everything"

In the email, Nesi states that Storåkers in the Stockholm Athletics Association's annual reports and business plans repeatedly wrote about how strained finances, despite the fact that he repeatedly received large sums through confidential invoices, invoices that were stamped as confidential - despite the fact that in several annual reports even those who worked part-time in the café, and paid competition officials.

“How do you value the corresponding work that is done non-profit in Athletics Sweden?

You gain trust through your actions, not with empty promises.

That is why you have consumed everything ", writes Nesi.

"A fat slap in the face"

Nesi tells SVT Sport that he has not received an answer from Storåkers, and that he - for the benefit of Swedish athletics - really hopes that Storåkers resigns.

- It is a fat slap in the face to all non-profit workers, that they are led by someone who has paid for their non-profit work.

What work has he done non-profit, as chairman without remuneration, he wonders.

"Worked very hard"

Johan Storåkers tells SVT Sport that he values non-profit work extremely highly, and assures that he himself spent a lot of time on it.

- I worked very hard with the district, around the clock.

I have said that there should have been greater openness and transparency.

I have nothing more to add, he says.

But even if you worked hard, where was the line between non-profit and paid work?

- It was an assessment that the head of operations made.

He was the one who made the assessment of what was operational and what was in the role of chairman.

I put in an awful lot of hours on the chairmanship as well.

I toiled more for the Stockholm Athletics Association than I did in any other sports organization.

"Incredibly big work"

The then head of operations, Björn Sveen, believes that the work that Storåkers put in was significantly greater than what can be requested from an elected chairman of the board.

- He put in an enormous amount of work, and not just what you can expect from an elected representative.

He was broadly involved in all areas, he says.

"For the good of the organization"

According to Sveen, the remuneration of Storåkers was preferable, instead of hiring more people.

- We used Johan in this way for the benefit of the organization, to do as good a job as possible at a low cost, he says.

Johan periodically worked part-time and more for the district operations.

I have not met any other elected representative who has been close to his commitment.
