The women's soccer team at VfL Wolfsburg narrowly missed out on a win in the first leg of the quarter-finals in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga leaders only drew 1-1 (1-0) at English leaders FC Arsenal on Wednesday evening, but this put them in a good position for the second leg.

The second game will take place on March 31st in the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg.

After Tabea Waßmuth gave VfL the lead in the 19th minute in front of 5,018 spectators at the Emirates Stadium, Lotte Wubben-Moy scored the deserved equalizer for the hosts shortly before the end (89th).

The Wolfsburg women started well and put Arsenal under pressure early on.

The reward: In the 19th minute, Waßmuth gave the visitors the lead with a header.

After that, the green-whites withdrew a long way and came under increasing pressure towards the end of the first half.

After the change of sides, VfL got a little braver again, but were unlucky that Waßmuth and Jill Roord only hit the post (61st).

In the final stages, the English women pushed for an equalizer and were rewarded in the end.
