The Ricketts family expressed their condemnation of all forms of hatred, amid public opposition from Chelsea supporters to the family's purchase of the team from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea fans launched the "No Ricketts" hashtag on Twitter, and participants raised concerns about the family, who also owns the American baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
Joe Ricketts, the head of the family, was accused of Islamophobia in 2019, after emails to him were leaked.
But the Ricketts family has made many moves, stressing that it does not accept any kind of racism or hatred, in its quest to buy Chelsea club.
There is no Joe Ricketts in the family's bid to buy the club, with the operation being led by his son Tom, who is president of the Chicago Cubs.
In a statement, the family said, "Our family rejects any form of hatred in the strongest possible terms. Racism and Islamophobia have no place in our society. We have developed many distinguished partnerships with the Muslim community and communities there in Chicago, as with all communities of color."
"Respect for diversity and inclusion is fundamental to our family values, and if we are successful in our bid for Chelsea, we will be committed to the club and the fans and promote those values."
Joe Ricketts called Muslims "my enemies" in an email 3 years ago.
Ricketts later apologized for the messages, while Tom distanced himself from his father's comments.
"I deeply apologize for some of the messages in my email," said Joe Ricketts. "Sometimes I've been getting messages against my values. I think the nervousness and the ideas that come out of it are wrong."
For his part, Tom Ricketts confirmed that his father is not involved in any way in managing the Chicago Cubs.
