• News Another calamity: Marc Márquez suffers a hard fall and misses the race

Marc Márquez

, in 2019: «My DNA is to take risks».

Marc Márquez, in 2020: "I'm not going to give up my style."

Marc Márquez, in 2021: "I will always try, even if there is risk."

Marc Márquez, in 2022, that is, this Friday: "To run I need to attack."

His piloting was innovation, it was revolution, it was the future, and now it's condemnation?

Since he broke his right shoulder almost two years ago, Márquez has tried to recover his essence, his elbow on the asphalt, the skids, the late braking, but on too many occasions he has already suffered the consequences of so much daring.

In the Indonesian Grand Prix he fell four times and the last one, this Sunday, in the warm up of the race, almost cost him his physique.

He couldn't run because of a head injury, but that was the least of it.

His blow was one of those that are hardly seen in MotoGP anymore, safety and electronic influence were maximized.

Losing grip on the rear tire, the Honda ejected him like in a rodeo, he flew two meters over the machine and fell to the asphalt with his entire right side: leg, hip, arm and so on up to his head.

That he didn't break anything, as the MRIs proved, was a miracle.

He was immediately transferred to Lombok Hospital and he returned to the circuit before the start of the race, but allowing him to race would have been foolish.

After seven seasons without missing a race, Márquez followed the test on television, as he already did all of 2020 and four times in 2021.

In his surroundings they have joked with a possible curse, but the reasons for so many misfortunes do not respond to the unknown: it is his style and the divorce with his motorcycle.

In the happy years, Márquez dominated the Honda at will until he knew how to crash.

If he visited the ground, nothing happened.

He lived the search for limits normally, as a routine fact, while the machine responded to what he asked.

Now everything is very different.

The six-time MotoGP champion, with the limitations of his injuries, wants to, but cannot.

In the first place because his body does not allow him to dominate the motorcycle so much, to squeeze it until those times in which he got up with a guaranteed bump.

And secondly because the Honda is another.

During his absence, the Japanese factory transformed his bike to make it more manageable, less wild, and that, which is a blessing for his teammate

Pol Espargaró

, is a curse for Márquez.

The change of compounds by Michelin, which brought old tires to Indonesia this Sunday, was just the final straw to his misfortune.

The future

If he wants to win again or, at least, stay healthy for a season, Márquez will have to give up his style, the danger he loved, and opt for a more predictable driving, with the maximum possible safety.

At 29 years old and with his resume, the company is difficult, but his career is good for it.

"It has been one of the strongest falls I have had," he acknowledged yesterday in statements published by his own team and so that he does not repeat himself he will need a change.

For the moment, back in Madrid, where he has been living for a few months, his main concern must be to undergo the relevant tests and heal from the blow received -yesterday he had a bandage on his right elbow-.

Then he, together with his team, will assess whether traveling to the American tour entails any risk before leaving.

There, between Termas de Río Hondo, in Argentina, and Austin, in the United States, Márquez always enjoyed himself, especially on the Yankee circuit, where for years he was far superior to the rest.

Both circuits will test whether the Honda leader can win without so many surprises or if he can only do it with the maximum risk, true to his style, always on the attack.

The number of MotoGP titles with which he retires and even the health with which he lives his retirement will depend on that question.
