Milan coach: We were subjected to racist abuse in front of Cagliari

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli said that his team goalkeeper Mike Mainan and defender Fikayo Tomori were subjected to racist abuse by the local fans during the match that his team won 1-0 at Cagliari in Sardinia in the Italian Serie A yesterday.

Mainan was the closest to the Cagliari crowd while he was celebrating with Tomori at the end of the match, when they were subjected to racist abuse, which caused an argument between a number of players from both teams.

Milan confirmed via Twitter after the match, "This match in the Italian League was dedicated to the fight against racism, but the way forward in this area is still long and we must continue to fight (against racism)."

Bewley said Mainan and Tomori assured him that they had been racially abused by the public.

On the other hand, Cagliari striker Joao Pedro said he had not heard anything like this and defended his team's fans, saying, "I have not heard anything. This is a very sensitive topic, but I was actually in the middle of the field at that time."
