A cooperation agreement to enhance the role of arbitration centers in settling sports disputes

The branch of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Abu Dhabi signed a cooperation agreement with the Emirates Center for Sports Arbitration, with the aim of developing mechanisms for resolving sports disputes and promoting the dissemination of the culture of arbitration, as well as implementing decisions issued by either center, preparing and qualifying sports arbitrators at the local and international levels, and qualifying Lawyers to deal with sports disputes.

The agreement comes in light of the prominent role played by the two parties in the fields of sports arbitration, as the branch of the Court of Arbitration for Sports in the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi hosts the hearings of disputes that CAS decides to hold in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi under the agreement concluded between the Department and the Court in 2012, while the The Emirates Sports Arbitration Center, which was established under Federal Law No. (16) of 2016 is exclusively competent to arbitrate in all sports disputes, especially those related to final decisions issued by the working authorities and the Olympic Committee, in accordance with its statutes, disciplinary decisions, and appealable decisions issued by the Committee National Anti-Doping Agency.

Counselor Youssef Al-Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, confirmed that the agreement supports the efforts made to develop work in the branch of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), in a way that enhances its role and activities and achieves the directions aimed at making Abu Dhabi a regional and international center for sports arbitration, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Head of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, which aims to achieve leadership and excellence in providing all services in accordance with the best international standards.

For his part, Dharar Belhoul Al Falasi, Vice President of the Emirates Center for Sports Arbitration, stressed the importance of establishing partnerships with the authorities related to sports arbitration, whether at the state level or at the Arab and international levels, to serve the march of UAE sport from all sides, pointing to the prominent role that plays By the Center and the Judicial Department, so that this agreement will achieve the desired integration through joint bilateral coordination to settle various sports disputes.
