Jereem Richards, 28, dedicates his first individual World Cup gold to former World Cup gold medalist Deon Lendore.

Richards and Lendore were teammates and close friends until Lendore tragically passed away in a car accident in January this year.

- I know he would have been proud.

It was a bittersweet moment when I realized I was breaking his national record.

It was one of the last records he had left.

I'm glad I'm getting my name in the history books, but it's a shame because it's my brother who's gone who's disappearing from them.

It's joy and sorrow at the same time, says Richards.

Richard's previous individual medals have been in the 200 meters.

Therefore, he was happy with how he completed the race.

- I knew that there were several who are more of 400-meter specialists, so my plan was to beat them quickly.

They would chase me.

I succeeded and I'm just so happy.

I did not expect a championship record.

He also pays tribute to the Swedish bronze medalist Carl Bengström.

- He ran very well.

He's a really nice guy.

I saw him in the semifinals and then I realized that I had to run faster than ever before.
