After a curiosity with the video evidence, FSV Mainz 05 won again for the first time since the Corona quarantine and significantly increased Arminia Bielefeld's concerns about relegation.

The hosts prevailed 4-0 (1-0) on Saturday thanks to three penalties and, with 37 points now, they no longer have to worry about relegation.

National player Jonathan Burkardt scored the fastest goal of the current season after 27 seconds, and Moussa Niakhaté (65th / penalty kick), Burkardt again (75th / penalty kick) and Marcus Ingvartsen (79th / penalty kick) scored in front of 25,000 spectators in Corona conditions sold out Mainz stadium.

At Bielefeld, the return of head coach Frank Kramer, who was absent due to Corona, did not help either.

It was the fourth game in a row that was lost without a goal.

Because of the victories of Hertha and Stuttgart, Ostwestfalen slipped to 17th relegation place.

The direct duel with VfB should set the trend immediately after the international break.

In the last game before the international break, there was only reason to celebrate for Mainz, who recently had 20 corona cases to complain about.

Goalkeeper Robin Zentner's contract extension to 2025 was announced before the start of the game.

Then Burkardt hit the visitors' goal so quickly after a pass by Silvan Widmer that the stadium announcer couldn't even admonish the Bielefeld supporters for the pyrotechnics they had ignited.

Fifteen minutes later, one of the strangest scenes of the current season ensued: after a dangerous header from Moussa Niakhaté, referee Felix Zwayer allowed the ball to continue because Stefan Ortega had obviously cleared the ball in front of the line.

But then, when the game had long since continued, Zwayer received a delayed signal from his radio clock – goal.

But that's not all: After a request from the video assistant referee (VAR), Zwayer watched the scene again and suddenly recognized the goal again.

The confusion was huge, but it should continue at 1-0.

The Mainz fans chanted loudly: "You are destroying our sport." At half-time, the Mainz team said over the stadium microphone that "1.5 goals had been scored".

But even after the controversial scene, Mainz should have won the game long before: Dominik Kohr (20th) only hit the crossbar at first.

When Burkardt hit the lower edge of the crossbar after the change, the goal music was already played – but the ball wasn't in it.

The early decision then brought Niakhaté, who confidently converted a penalty kick.

Ten minutes later, the captain gave Burkardt the lead, who made it 3-0.

Before the third penalty within 15 minutes, several Mainz pros were able to calmly discuss who should shoot: In the end, Ingvartsen converted.

On the guest side, only goalkeeper Ortega proved to have the level for the Bundesliga.
