Three offers were made to buy the English Premier League club Chelsea, which was offered for sale after the British and European sanctions imposed on its Russian owner Roman Abramovich after his country launched a war on Ukraine.

Official bidders after the deadline are:

  • British real estate developer Nick Candy.

  • The Ricketts family owns the Chicago Cubs baseball club.

  • A Consortium featuring Sir Martin Bruton and Lord Sebastian Coe.

The US bank "Rain" group is overseeing the sale process before the British government imposes sanctions on Abramovich, and has set a deadline for Friday to receive purchase offers.

Abramovich was among 7 Russian billionaires added to Britain's sanctions list last week, in an attempt to isolate President Vladimir Putin over Russia's war on Ukraine.

The Russian businessman, who also holds citizenships of Israel and Portugal, denies that he is close to Putin.

The wealth of the Russian billionaire is estimated at more than 12 billion euros, and he acquired Chelsea in 2003 and led him to the coronation of many titles, before he was forced to offer it for sale with mounting pressure on him due to Russia’s war on Ukraine, but the sale process was suspended by a decision of the British government that imposed sanctions. Ali Abramovich and allowed the London club to continue operating under a temporary license.
