When the qualifiers for the World Cup 2023 began in the autumn, the European Football Association (Uefa) had introduced a new requirement.

Every national team now needs at least one woman in its technical management staff to qualify for and participate in the world championships.

However, the rule only applies to the women's national team - and not on the men's side.

A decision that Kosovar Asllani questions.

- Sometimes you are a little afraid to hire women.

Had it only been for skills, there would have been more women everywhere in all organizations around the world.

But that you set this rule only for women's football is incomprehensible.

Competence is not about gender, says Kosovar Asllani to SVT Sport.

- They can improve, they run a bit of double standards sometimes, says Asllani about Uefa.

"Says women can only lead women"

SVT Sport expert Markus Johannesson doubts that "coercion" is the right method to use.

- If it is the case that you have to stand with the whip and say that you want to get more women in, it is a hole in my head at Uefa that you only do it on the women's side.

It must of course be done with both national teams if that is the goal.

Otherwise, it is said that women can only lead women, which is completely wrong, says Johannesson

Long-term work

Johannesson prefers to work long-term to get more women into coaching roles.

- Such projects are underway to make it happen in Swedish football.

It is good.

There, Uefa can come in and help more national federations, as it looks different between different countries, by investing resources.

The expert believes that it is more important to actively work with a recruitment process of women coaches.

- It creates motivation in the union itself and the country that you understand why you do it and why it is important with both sexes in the organization.

Now it can instead go in the wrong direction and that it will be negative as the countries feel compelled to bring in more women.
