Brighton's Leandro Trossard hit a powerful ball in the eighth minute, which was caught by Liverpool goalkeeper Alison Becker.

Liverpool continued their attacking pressure until this pressure resulted in the goal of the lead by Colombian Luis Diaz in the 19th minute.

The goal came after a quick organized attack by Liverpool and a long pass played by Joel Matip, and Diaz rushed towards to meet it with a clever header from the edge of the penalty area, so that the ball settled in the goal, while Diaz fell injured due to a strong intervention from the goalkeeper, who advanced to the borders of the area in order to address the dangerous attack.

The referee did not award the goal at first for offside, but changed his mind and calculated the goal after reviewing the video assistant referee system (VAR), and if he overlooked the expulsion or warning of the Brighton goalkeeper despite his violent intervention with the Liverpool star.

Liverpool continued their attacking pressure in the following minutes, although the team's attacks sometimes lacked the required intensity, as Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez excelled in stopping some of the balls from Liverpool players.

The Brighton goalkeeper saved a dangerous shot from Mohamed Salah after the latter manipulated Brighton's defense in the 43rd minute, ending the first half with Liverpool ahead with a clean goal.

With the start of the second half, Brighton pushed Adam Lallana instead of Stephen Alzati, but Lallana played only a few minutes in the face of his former team Liverpool, where he was injured and was replaced in the 52nd minute by his colleague Pascal Gross.

The two teams exchanged attacks, with the preference for Liverpool, although the latter failed to translate this advantage to more goals at the beginning of this half.

Salah manipulated the Brighton defenders inside the penalty area in the 57th minute and hit the ball towards the goal, but it hit one of the players and bounced off the crossbar.

Salah also missed a golden opportunity for Liverpool after a quick attack by the team in the next minute, which Salah ended by hitting the ball outside the goal.

Liverpool's pressure resulted in a penalty kick in the 59th minute after a shot from Naby Keita was saved by Brighton's Yves Bisuma with his hand.
