A lot of ink was poured over Real Madrid's first goal, which was scored by French star Karim Benzema, Real Madrid's top scorer, in his great team's 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League final.

Regarding the controversial goal, former international referee Jamal Sharif says that “when the ball returned to the Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Benzema extended his foot and leg forward towards the ball, and the contact with the goalkeeper’s left thigh occurred on Benzema’s thigh from behind, so the goalkeeper made a mistake by removing the ball and fell in an attempt To influence the referee, however, the referee demanded to continue playing, as Benzema was able to score after a pass from Vinicius and the VAR referee confirmed the correctness of the referee’s decision to calculate the goal.

On the other hand, the arbitration expert of Al-Jazeera Net, Nasser Sadiq, considered that the goal came from a clear "push" violation by Benzema against the Saint-Germain goalkeeper, according to the text of Article 12 of the Football Law (errors and misconduct), for the following considerations:

First - Benzema pushed with his right foot Donnarumma's left foot fixed on the ground and with the help of his elbow as well, in a negligent manner that made him lose his balance, which made him fail to direct the ball correctly and fall to the ground, and negligence is one of the conditions of the violation in Article 12.

Secondly - Donnarumma was the one who played the ball, while Benzema did not even manage to touch it before a strong contact with him, which is the boundary between calculating violations or not.

In turn, Argentine Mauricio Pochettino says that the goal should be cancelled, adding, "There is a sense of injustice because of this goal."

He continued, "It was a clear mistake by Benzia on Donnarumma, and this goal changed the atmosphere of the match and affected our players. It was the incident of tipping the scales, we were the best team in the two matches, and after Real Madrid scored the equalizer, they had nothing to lose, so they attacked fiercely."

Despite the criticism of Donnarumma, Pochettino defended the Italian, stressing that "Benzema committed a clear mistake, I watched the match 40 times and from all angles, it was not a mistake from the goalkeeper, small details that upset the match and the mouse did not see a fatal mistake."

It is noteworthy that Real Madrid qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Champions League with a total score of 3-2, losing the first leg in the "Princes' Garden" with a clean goal and winning 3-1 back thanks to the Benzema hat-trick.
