Like other local authorities, the Gard departmental council has decided to renounce the passage of the Olympic flame on its land.

The amount (150,000 euros) claimed by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee is considered prohibitive.

"The financial participation required for the passage of the flame is, in the state, too important for spinoffs that are difficult to assess", specifies the county council.

The Department explains that it allocates this budget differently by favoring “its financial aid for equal access to sports practices and for support for departmental structuring sports associations.
