Liljander joins from Frölunda, where he has been since 2009, since 2017 in the role of deputy sports director.

The 39-year-old takes over some of the current sports manager Patrik Sylvegård's duties, while Sylvegård continues to work overall with sports while he continues in the role of CEO, the club states.

According to Patrik Sylvegård, they have followed Liljander for a long time, but have not previously managed to recruit him.

"Now he feels that he wants to take this step and I am extremely happy and happy that we get him in as an important part of Malmö Redhawks future," he says in a press release.

Liljander himself says that the club has "extremely great potential" and further points out that "we can definitely make the club grow to become a top club in Sweden".

"Patrik's human warmth as well as his commitment and huge heart for this club is something that really shines through when you meet him.

Now I look forward to starting work and longing to come down ", he continues in the press release.

Liljander will take office on 1 May.

After Malmö accidentally presented Peter Andersson as the new head coach, the deal broke down - and the former assistant Tomas Kollar continues to have the main responsibility for the rest of the season, the club announced on Wednesday.
