The Ethics Committee of the Ukrainian Football Association is seeking to strip former captain Anatoly Timoshuk of his coaching license and state awards for his silence on Russia's war against his country and his continued work at Zenit St Petersburg.

Tymoshuk, 42, is the dean of Ukraine players, as he has played the most international matches. He played 144 matches between 2000 and 2016, and won league titles with Shakhtar Donetsk and Zenit, and achieved a hat-trick with Bayern Munich in 2013, and he is currently working as an assistant coach for Zenit.

Neither Timoshuk nor his club would immediately comment on a Reuters request for comment.

Russia's war on Ukraine resulted in sanctions at various games, and many Ukrainian athletes condemned the war and expressed support for their armed forces.

"Since the beginning of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, Timoshuk has not issued any statement in this regard, but has not stopped cooperating with the aggressor country's club," the Ukrainian Federation's Ethics and Fair Play Committee said in a statement.

"At a time when his former club, Bayern Munich, published statements and suspended activities in support of Ukraine, Timoshuk continued to remain silent," it added.

And she continued, "The committee proposes to the Ukrainian Federation to withdraw the training license from him, as well as to strip him of the league and cup medals in Ukraine, and to exclude him from the official record of the players of the Ukrainian national team."
