According to the civil protection services of the state of Querétaro, the clashes on Saturday during the meeting of the Mexican championship between the local club and the Atlas of Guadalajara left 22 injured, two of them in serious condition.

But the unbearable images and videos shared on social networks raise fears of a much heavier toll following this surge of violence between supporters.

The Mexican Football League has announced the suspension of all matches scheduled to take place on Sunday as part of the ninth day.

Unbearable images of supporters beaten up, lynched, massacred at the Querétaro - Atlas match, images that we will not share.

Banners "stop the war in Ukraine" before the match, we look elsewhere, but a Mexico unable to resolve the violence within its society.

The clashes in the stands began in the 63rd minute of the game.

Overwhelmed, the few security guards present in the stadium allowed the public to take refuge on the lawn, which caused the immediate cessation of the meeting.

On the pitch, supporters continued to fight as families with children tried to protect themselves.

The players then returned to the locker room.

The promises of “exemplary” punishments

“Those responsible for the lack of security measures in the stadium will be punished in an exemplary manner,” reacted the president of the Mexican Football League, Mikel Arriola.

The Atlas club demanded in a press release an investigation to determine the responsibilities of the violence.

The Querétaro club also condemned these acts of violence in its stadium.

Mexico is to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the United States and Canada.
