A couple of days after most other sports federations decided to stop Russian athletes, the International Ski Federation also came earlier this week with that message.

Among other things, this meant that World Cup leader Natalya Neprjajeva will not be allowed to compete again this season.

Andersson's chances disappeared

Despite this, the 26-year-old Russian today secured the overall World Cup victory, as Ebba Andersson did not finish better than ninth in Holmenkollen's three miles.

Thus, the Swede's chances to overtake the Russian disappeared.

- So fantastic, says the Russian national team coach Yuri Borodavko, according to the Russian site Championat.

- She has fought for this for a long time and deserves it.

First overall title

Natalya Neprjajeva won four World Cup competitions this season, and took home three medals from the Olympics - one of each denomination.

This is the first time Neprajaeva has won the overall World Cup title.

She finished second in 2019 and third in 2020.
