“After scanning the bag, the customs officers noticed vapes”

On Saturday, March 5, a major scandal erupted in Russian women's basketball.

It became known about the possible detention of one of the main stars of the championship of the country, Brittney Greiner.

Since 2015, the two-time Olympic champion as part of the US team has combined performances for the Phoenix Mercury in the women's NBA and for the Yekaterinburg UMMC.

However, now the athlete's career may be in jeopardy.

It became known that back in February, she was allegedly detained after arriving at Sheremetyevo Airport from New York because of drugs found in her.

Data on the detention of the titled athlete, without naming her name and surname, was confirmed by the Federal Customs Service.

The press service of the department also published a video of the incident in their Telegram channel.

The footage shows a tall black woman with pigtails placing her bag on a scanner at an airport.

Another camera captures FCS employees carefully studying some packages and containers.

This is followed by a more thorough inspection of personal belongings.

The video ends with the suspect signing some documents.

The FCS reported that the drugs were found in the woman's personal belongings when passing through the "green" corridor.

A service dog, which reacted to hand luggage, helped to find prohibited substances.

“Having scanned the bag, the customs officers noticed vapes.

Experts have established that the cartridges for them contain liquid with hash oil, ”the FCS Telegram channel says.

A criminal case was opened against a US citizen under paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of narcotic drugs in a significant amount).

This article provides for serious punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years.

It is noted that investigative actions are being carried out against the American.

As a measure of restraint, she was chosen to be taken into custody.

The FCS did not name the detainee, but the listing of regalia actually revealed her identity.

And the press service of the Sheremetyevo customs added that she is also a professional basketball player and plays in the WNBA.

According to a TASS source in law enforcement agencies, Greiner is indeed the detainee.

In the current season of the Women's Championship of Russia, Brittney played only four matches for the UMMC.

In January, she went to the court three times and helped her team win confident victories over Samara, Dynamo and Sparta & K.

Since then, Russian fans have not seen an American.

RT's attempts to find out from the representatives of the club what is currently happening with the star were unsuccessful.

And she posted her last post on Instagram on February 6th.

Then the athlete shared with subscribers a photo of the Phoenix Mercury team.

“Everyone tells me about homophobia, but I don’t feel it in Russia”

The 31-year-old center is one of the most famous basketball players on the planet.

In 2013, she was selected by Phoenix in the WNBA draft under the first number, and the following year she celebrated the championship with the Mercury.

Greiner's regalia can be listed for a long time.

She was regularly called up to the All-Star Games, in 2014 and 2015 she was recognized as the best defensive player in the league, and in 2017 and 2019 she became the most productive basketball player.

The Houston native did well internationally as well.

For the first time she was invited to the US team back in 2011, when she performed at the student level.

The talented center could even go to the London Olympics, but refused for family reasons.

But in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, the American was one of the leaders of the team and helped the Stars and Stripes to take first place twice.

Also with her as part of the United States, they won two championships of the planet - in Turkey-2014 and Spain-2018.

In 2015 Greiner signed a contract with UMMC and came to Russia.

Ekaterinburg fans quickly fell in love with her for her selfless game and incredible block shots.

The height of 206 cm allowed her to confidently cover even the most difficult throws of her rivals.

Brittney did not remain without titles here either.

In 2016 and 2017, she twice became the champion of the country, and also won the Euroleague bronze.

At the same time, in all seasons of the national championship, the American did not fall below the bar of 15 points on average per match and twice crossed the mark of 20 points (not counting the current season).

The personal life of the athlete also caused considerable discussion.

The fact is that she did not hide her non-traditional sexual orientation.

She made a coming out back in 2013, before the start of performances in the WNBA.

The basketball player is not shy about posting joint photos with his wife on social networks.

“Everyone tells me about homophobia, but I don’t feel it in Russia.

Here I feel good.

Last year, when my wife came, we didn't kiss right in the middle of the street, for example.

We don't do it at home in the US either.

And I don't want to see anyone doing this in the middle of the street.

But of course, my wife and I went to local clubs, ”Greiner said in an interview with E1 in 2019.

She also confessed her love for Russia and noted that after the end of her career she was definitely going to return to Yekaterinburg.

“I feel safer when I go out here than in the US.

Maybe because I don't know what's going on around.

I don't watch the news because I don't know Russian.

I think if you don't know, you feel more secure.

In Houston, where we live, on the news every day we hear about three or four murders, car accidents, shootings, robberies, ”said the basketball player.
