A German club signs a sponsorship contract with a new company as an alternative to Russia's "Gazprom"

German football club Schalke 04 signed a contract with a new major sponsor, contracting with the housing company "Vivaost", after ending its partnership with the Russian company "Gazprom".

And Schalke 04, a club in the second division, stated that the new sponsorship provisions would be applied immediately, without revealing further details.

Schalke had terminated its contract with Gazprom after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, knowing that it has sponsored the club since 2007, and played a role in its steadfastness despite the financial crises it faced.

"We are very grateful to Vivaost for their support during this challenging period," said Bernd Schroeder, CEO of Schalke FC.

He added: "After the dissolution of our partnership with Gazprom last week, we succeeded in leading the process of rearranging Schalke's cards. Our discussions with Vivaost were marked by mutual appreciation and respect. This partnership marks the beginning of a new era at Schalke 04."

For his part, Uwe Eichner, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vivaost, said: "We see ourselves as a company with a long history of providing housing for miners, and given our administrative headquarters in Gelsenkirchen, we feel it is our duty to support Schalke."

"The horrific events in Ukraine require all of us to stand together and show solidarity. It is in this spirit that we have agreed on a temporary partnership with Schalke 04 based on our shared values, and we look forward very much to this partnership."
