Record participation in the "Iron Man Dubai" Triathlon Championship

The "Iron Man Dubai Triathlon" championship will start at 7 am on Saturday morning, which will be held on Jumeirah Street with the support of the Dubai Sports Council and with the participation of 2,500 male and female athletes, including 1,675 participants from outside the country who came to participate in the championship.


The seventh edition of the championship is witnessing a strong competition, especially between two world champions, the Danish Daniel B Kiegard, the defending champion, the Norwegian Christian Blumenfelt, the Swiss champion Daniela Reeve, the last title holder, and the German champion Laura Philippe, ranked third in the world,


and the championship competitions begin with the swimming race at Umm Beach Suqeim in Jumeirah, where the distance covered by the competitors is 113 km in three events: swimming for 1.9 km, cycling for 90 km and running for 21.1 km on a running track along the beach.


Tournament Director Ahmed Al Hajj said, "The (Iron Man Dubai Triathlon) is one of the most important and strongest triathlon tournaments in the world and is being hosted by Dubai for the seventh year in a row, and we are pleased with the great turnout of athletes from inside and outside the country."


He added, "The participation of 2,500 male and female athletes in this event is a new record, with the Norwegian Olympic champion Christian Blumenfeldt, the world record holder for the 70.3 distance, and the Danish Daniel P. Kiegard, who won first place in the last edition of the Iron Man Dubai Championship and is ranked sixth in the world in the men's category. And the Swiss world champion Daniela Reeve, ranked second in the world in the women's category and holder of the title of the previous edition and winner of the world championship four times, and the German Laura Philippe, ranked third in the world.


Al-Hajj added: "This international tournament has become an important station that attracts elite international athletes who cover thousands of kilometers from different countries of the world to come to Dubai and participate in the most difficult competitions ever. .


For his part, Director of Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, Khalid Al Awar stressed that this tournament tops the annual agenda of the Dubai Sports Council, and we are always keen to provide all necessary support for the success of organizing this important tournament, in which athletes of different ages and nationalities participate.


He added, "We are pleased with the continuity of this championship and the keenness of the world champions and triathletes enthusiasts from different countries of the world to attend and participate in it, which reflects the status of triathlon in the UAE, and that it has become a preferred global destination for champions and practitioners of this sport that requires high physical performance and proficiency in various types of sports.
