SVT Sport was able to reveal last week that the Gotland and Stockholm Athletics Association has chosen not to nominate Johan Storåkers for a new period as chairman of the Swedish Athletics Association.

The reason is that last year they discovered that Storåkers during his nine-year period as chairman of the Stockholm Athletics Association received more than SEK 600,000 in compensation - without the knowledge of the rest of the board, and despite the fact that the chairmanship is basically non-profit.

Proposed by the Nomination Committee

In addition, he had marked the basis for the payments as "confidential".

But when the Swedish Athletics Association's nomination committee today presented its proposals for the annual meeting later this month, it turned out that Storåkers, despite last week's revelations, is proposed for another term as chairman of the association.

- He has broad support in the movement, and he was nominated by many different districts and associations, explains the nomination committee's chair Helene Bourdin.

Few knew about it

The last time for districts and associations to nominate people for board positions was over a month ago, and thus before SVT Sport could reveal the payments from Storåker's time as chairman of the Stockholm Athletics Association.

The Swedish Athletics Association's nomination committee had, however, been reached by the information earlier, but according to SVT Sports' information, very few others knew about the matter.

- We have been informed about the situation, and they had done an internal investigation that showed that there was no reason to go further.

It is a matter for the district association and not Swedish, says Helene Bourdin.

There have been no discussions in the last week?

Because as I understand it, the story has stirred up some emotions in athletics Sweden ...

- Nothing has come to us.

No one has withdrawn any nomination.

It is clear that we are talking to each other, but there are no proposals that have been added.

Was there any other candidate that you in the Nomination Committee considered?

- I have no comments on how our discussions have gone.

We do this internally.
