Earlier this week, the International Olympic Committee's recommendation came to sports organizations: ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.

Nevertheless, Fina chose to allow athletes from the said nations to participate under a neutral flag.

- Fina has not presented their reasons for the position, it is sad in itself, says Pia Zätterström, chairman of the Swedish Swimming Association, to SVT Sport.

"Nordic coherence"

The decision is contrary to the Swedish call that is in line with the IOC's decision and Sweden has now joined forces with the Nordic countries to bring about a change.

 - We have a great Nordic consensus, where we have dialogues about this.

What we have done is push the issue to the European Union (Len).

They had a meeting on Wednesday and have now taken a position on the issue where they do not follow Fina's position.

Pia Zätterström says that Fina has a meeting at the beginning of next week.

There you will discuss the issue.

- We continue to try to make an impact.

Since Len also made that decision, we have the support.

"Will be the next step"

She expects a quick message from Fina.

- We hope that it is only a matter of a few days.

If Fina stands by its position of allowing Russians and Belarusians in international competitions, will Swedes be on the starting lists where they participate?

- It will be the next step for us to decide on.

Now we know where Len is in the question, so the competitions they control are definitely over.

We will discuss the issue next week, depending on how Fina stands.

But we have our opinion clear.
