Russia has not abandoned the idea of participating in the World Cup, from which it was excluded due to the War in Ukraine.

The Russian football federation will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne against its exclusion from the 2022 World Cup and all international competitions, it announced in a press release on Thursday.

Russia was to face Poland on March 24 in the World Cup play-offs.

But on February 28, Fifa and UEFA banned her from all her competitions, in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.

"No legal basis" to record this withdrawal

The Russian Federation will demand the reinstatement of all national men's and women's teams in all competitions, she said, asking the CAS "for an accelerated procedure" on this file, three weeks before the scheduled meeting against the Poles, who have announced that they would not play this match under any circumstances.

She believes that Fifa and UEFA had "no legal basis" to act on this withdrawal, decided "under pressure" from rival federations like the Polish association.

She also regrets not having been able to present her position before the authorities.
