The Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Thursday that the requirement for a vaccine passport to enter major events in France will be abolished, reports the BBC.

In February, Djokovic said he was prepared to miss more grand slam tournaments to avoid getting vaccinated against covid-19.

The Serbian world number two was thrown out of Australia ahead of the Australian Open in January because he had not been vaccinated against the virus.

He thus did not get the chance to defend his title from 2021. Instead, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal won in Melbourne and became the first male player to reach 21 grand slam titles.

Djokovic took home the French Championships last year.

This year's tournament begins on May 22.
