FIA President: Government support enhances the successes of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally

Mohammed bin Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation, said that the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge has a long history and a proud legacy, and that all the successes it achieved could not have taken place without the continuous government support, which remains the main factor in its prosperous future.

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, in its 31st edition, will take place from the 5th to the 10th of this month.

With the countdown to the start of the big event, Mohammed bin Sulayem, founder of the event, said that the event's continuation of more than 30 years is a tribute to the vision of the UAE in strengthening its global position as a center for sustainable motorsport.

He stressed: The bottom line in the successes of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally lies in the fact that the UAE government has provided tremendous support and encouragement to the rally over the years, because the plan was always aimed at taking the rally to the highest level and maintaining it.

He added: “Without this commitment, the rally’s career may have struggled for survival, but it has a great legacy to count on, reaching another level as part of the FIA ​​World Cross-Country Rally Championship with the new FIM cars and motorcycles.


The rally is currently one of the five elite rallies that make up the new World Desert Rally Championship, entering a new era as the desert rally events organized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) have united into one world championship for the first time.

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge offers competitors and rally teams from all over the world a stunning desert landscape.

The rally will start from the capital, Abu Dhabi, to the Al Dhafra region, which is full of stunning desert landscapes, to pass five stages with a distance of 264 km, 318 km, 270 km, 257 km and 217 km, respectively, in addition to the transitional stages of 519 km, bringing the total distance of the rally to 1,917 km.
