Two years ago, Frida Karlsson won her first World Cup competition when she sprinted down Therese Johaug in the riot in Holmenkollen.

Last year, "Kollen" was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

But this weekend there is a chance for Karlsson to defend the prestigious three-mile victory - if she is selected.

The squad will be presented tomorrow, and according to Per Nilsson, Karlsson is currently discussing with the coaches in the national team whether she should line up or not.

- She wants to go all out and give herself the chance and do herself justice.

She probably thinks for herself too, she will make a wise decision about what is most worthwhile, says Nilsson.

Advised from the classic

But his advice is that Karlsson should stand over Holmenkollen and instead invest everything in the last two World Cup weekends.

- It feels a bit like it will be Falun and another weekend.

And a quiet week at home now, if I had to choose, says Nilsson.

- But you can imagine how she thinks, she loves mass start and the experience there in "Kollen".

But logically it feels like if you are to be able to perform, you should rest for a weekend, but that is acceptable for a competitive person.

She's hungry for revenge.

"Difficult to point to a cause"

And the desire for revenge is very much based on how the last race turned out.

Karlsson finished 16th in the 10 kilometer classic in Lahti.

- It was terrible.

I'm fighting with my body right now.

The head wants more than the body can handle, Karlsson told SVT Sport after the competition.

Per Nilsson believes that the explanation behind the latest results, in the Olympics and in Lahti, is complex.

The new experience of recharging at high altitude, the mental stress of going to the Olympics as a 22-year-old with medal expectations and material choices.

- She has felt so incredibly good and strong in her body, but she did not feel that this weekend.

It is difficult to pinpoint a cause.

She is a competitive person and does everything in her power, but it might be too much too.
