Djal invites the FIFA president to attend the Iraq-UAE match in Baghdad

The head of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, announced his intention to invite the presidents of the International and Asian Federations to attend the Iraq-UAE match in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, after the matches returned to Baghdad.

Derjal told the media on Monday that "the Iraqi federation will invite the president of the International Football Association, Gianni Infantino, as well as the president of the Asian Federation, Salman bin Ibrahim, to attend the Iraq-UAE match scheduled in the capital, Baghdad, next month."

"A number of federation presidents and some personalities will also be invited to attend this match," he added.

He explained, "FIFA is convinced of Iraq's ability to host and hold this match, as well as international matches in the future, and that the return of matches to the capital is a natural entitlement."

The national teams of Iraq and the UAE will meet on the twenty-fourth of next March in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, in a match that will be held for the first time in the capital, Baghdad, after announcing the lifting of the ban on Iraqi stadiums.

A member of the Iraqi Federation and its official spokesman, Ahmed al-Moussawi, told AFP that "the International Football Association (FIFA) has lifted the ban on Iraqi stadiums, and we have received an official notification stating that."

A media statement yesterday also quoted the head of the Iraqi Federation that "the International Federation of the Game has agreed to hold the match between Iraq and the Emirates in the capital, Baghdad, at the International City Stadium."

In the past, Iraqi stadiums faced a ban imposed by FIFA, based on security assessments that did not allow matches to be received.

The Iraqi team, as well as its UAE counterpart, are counting on their expected confrontation, for winning it means for the owner of the land and the public to stay in the Asian supplement race.

The Iraqi national team is ranked fifth before last on the list of the first group standings with five points, while its UAE counterpart occupies third place with nine points, noting that the three groups in the third round meet in an Asian supplement, and the winner between them meets the fifth of South America in an international supplement.
