Tuchel: Doubts about owner Abramovich worry Chelsea

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said that doubts about the future of the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine are disturbing the team ahead of the League Cup final against Liverpool tomorrow.

Abramovich, who bought Chelsea in 2003, has yet to face any sanctions but was mentioned in Parliament on Thursday when British Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled the largest package of sanctions against Russia.

"I would like to reserve my right not to comment until a decision is made, but we are aware of the matter and this worries and distracts us," Tuchel told reporters yesterday.

"To a certain degree, I understand the sensitive views of the club and the people it represents, and maybe people understand that the coach or the players don't know exactly what's really going on and at this moment we don't feel responsible for all of this. We feel absolutely terrible."

The German admitted that he and his players struggle not to think about the conflict in Ukraine and to shift the focus to the League Cup final.

"I think the situation is very big and not separate from anyone. The situation worries Europe and it happens in Europe and we are part of Europe and we cannot ignore the matter, close the door and focus on football," he added.
