For ten years, Christian Thoma has been a successful part of the Swedish alpine women's national team.

It was under his rule that Frida Hansdotter won Olympic gold in 2018. It was also under his rule that Sara Hector took Olympic gold just a few weeks ago.

Now the Italian has decided to quit.

"Very grateful"

His contract expires after the season - and it will not be extended, as Sportsnews first reported.

“I am very grateful for ten fantastic and successful years.

I am also grateful for all the support I have received from so many people.

I am grateful and proud of the trust from the athletes and the loyalty of the coaches around me.

I felt it was time to leave now and to be open to new opportunities ”.

Do not want to comment

He is looking forward to the end of the season, where Sara Hector is chasing victory in the giant slalom cup.

Hector leads the total and still has to compete in Lenzerheide, Åre and Courchevel

SVT Sport has talked to national team manager Lars Melin about Thomas' decision.

He does not want to comment.
