The UAE will host the DOTA 2 Dubai 2022 International Esports Championship, the largest of its kind in the Middle East region in Dubai and organized by the Dubai-based Galaxy Racer, the largest of its kind esports events and activities.
A group of the most important and professional esports teams in the world will meet in Dubai Studio City from March 2 to 6 to compete among themselves, during the tournament, for prizes worth 1,000,000 million dirhams.
The latest studies indicate that the world of games and e-sports has received more than half a billion new subscribers during the past three years, and research shows that the global market value of the games and e-sports sector exceeded $284 billion in 2021, while other market studies expected that the total value of the games and sports sector would exceed half a trillion dollars by 2028.
Alia Al Hammadi, Deputy Head of the Media Office of the UAE Government, said in a press statement: "The UAE's hosting of global digital events enhances opportunities for the transition towards a digital economy, and paves the way for promoting a culture of programming to reach the goal of 100,000 programmers in the UAE this year, in line with the initiatives of the economy. The Dota 2 electronic game has become one of the most important electronic games in terms of the number of registered users, which amounted to 72,000,000 million users in 2020, and the game has 11,000,000 active players per month.
Every day it is played on the Internet by millions of players in teams of five players each.
It has an online community of millions of gamers who are passionate about the game. Global estimates indicate that the number of esports viewers will rise in 2022 to reach more than 29 million viewers per month, an increase of more than 11% over last year.
