We have witnessed on several occasions that Alexander Ovetchkin is a great supporter of Vladimir Putin.

In 2017, he started the movement #PutinTeam, which in various ways works to promote Putin's progress and in his profile picture on Instagram, the hockey star poses with the Russian president.

After last night's match against the New York Rangers, many wanted to know what Ovetchkin's opinions were about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but they did not get any answers.

Ovetchkin could not be reached, which in itself was quite expected as his club Washington Capitals even before the match announced that the 36-year-old wants more time before he makes any statements.

New York Rangers star goalkeeper Igor Shestiorkin is also a Russian citizen and unlike Ovetchkin, he appeared at the subsequent press conference.

But it was with one caveat: no questions about Russia or Ukraine.

Other Russian stars who played during the night also refused to comment.
