The European Football Association (UEFA) has approved amendments to matches in European football competitions, against the backdrop of the Russian war on Ukraine.

And UEFA announced today, Friday, the transfer of the final match of the European Champions League, scheduled for May 28, from the Russian city of Saint Petersburg to the French capital, Paris.

The European Union also decided to hold the matches of the Russian and Ukrainian clubs and teams in the European championships in neutral stadiums instead of their stadiums "until further notice."

These decisions came at an emergency meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee held today, Friday, at the invitation of European Football Association President Aleksander Ceferin.

European lawmakers sent a letter to UEFA yesterday, Thursday, asking it to change the stadium of the Champions League final, and to stop thinking about the participation of Russian cities in hosting international football competitions.

A statement by UEFA yesterday condemned the Russian invasion, and said that it "shares the international community's great concern about the development of the security situation in Europe, and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine."

"We will remain resolute in declaring our solidarity with the football community in Ukraine, and we extend our hands to the Ukrainian people," he added.
