• The MHSC has opened a professional e-sport section, the MHSC E-sport, to participate, with nine other French clubs, in the e-Ligue 1 championship.

  • Farès and Rémi, 18 and 19, two players already well established in the world of e-sport, were chosen to be the representatives of MHSC E-sport.

  • For Olivier Nicollin, the boss of the Nicollin group, it was “a pity for the club to miss out [of e-Ligue 1].

It is better to be inside than outside”.

At the MHSC, we also play with our hands.

The Hérault club has opened a professional e-sport section, hoping to shine in e-Ligue 1, which will be launched on March 8 by the Professional Football League (LFP).

“We are very happy and delighted”, smiles Laurent Nicollin, the boss of the MHSC, who will face nine other French clubs in this virtual championship, broadcast on the Twitch platform.

The talents of Be Genius, one of the most prominent e-sports clubs in Occitania, will have the heavy responsibility of representing the orange and blue colors on "Fifa".

The game that was chosen, unsurprisingly, to support this competition.

“For two months, there will be a regular phase, during which the ten clubs will compete against each other, explains Geoffroy Lacour, the president of Be Genius.

And, at the end, there will be play-offs.

“These are small budgets, we are still far from football”

Farès (Resaaf) and Rémi (Koalaboiteux), 18 and 19 years old, two players already well established in the world of e-sport, have been chosen to be the representatives of MHSC E-sport.

This is a first professional contract for these two nuggets, employees of the club.

They are coached by Kwantwoo Williams (BadWilliams).

“About the recruitment of players, it is a reflection that we had from the start.

Do we position ourselves with players from the region or do we seek performance to try to win this league?

We tried to go towards the values of the MHSC, that is to say the performance, explains Geoffroy Lacour.

We recruited two players who are not from the region, but very close.

“But they will however have to be “100% on Montpellier”, confides the boss of Be Genius.

The budget that the MHSC devotes to this section will be 100,000 to 120,000 € for this first season.

“These are small budgets, we are still far from football”, notes Olivier Nicollin, the boss of the Nicollin group.

But for him, it had to be.

“We are a little dropped vis-à-vis these new things, he confides.

But it's interesting to know what's going on in there.

It's a way of reaching out to new audiences, of not losing contact with young audiences, who would be more interested in a games console than in a live match.

You have to live with the times.

“For Olivier Nicollin, it was” a pity for the club to miss out.

It is better to be inside than outside”.

First match for MHSC E-sport, March 9, against the Girondins de Bordeaux.
