Nadal in 2022.. 12 wins in the best start of a season in his career

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal extended his winning streak in 2022 to 12 wins, at the best start to a season of his career, when he defeated American Stefan Kozlov 6-0 6-3 last night to reach the quarter-finals of the Acapulco Tennis Championships.

Nadal, the 21-times Grand Slam champion and three-time Acapulco winner, arrived in Mexico after winning the Australian Open last month after missing a lengthy period of last season with a foot injury.

Kozlov participated in training with Nadal on Monday and joined the draw for the main role in the tournament after the injury of French Maxime Creasy.

Despite his break in the second set, Kozlov could not keep up with Nadal, whose previous best start to a season came when his 11-match winning streak came to a halt in 2014 when he lost to Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in the Australian Open final.

The 35-year-old will play American Tommy Paul, the 39th world number one, with the possibility of facing Russian Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, in a rematch of their clash in the Australian Open final.
