What was to be a Swedish meeting between Emil Forsberg and Alexander Isak, in the Europa League's first meeting between Leipzig and Real Sociedad, began instead without Swedes on the field.

The match ended 2-2 after Emil Forsberg jumped in and scored the 2-2 goal.

In the return meeting on Thursday night, Alexander Isak got the chance from the start, but Forsberg had to start on the bench again.

After an even first half, Leipzig could still go to half time with a 1-0 lead after receiving a penalty in the 39th minute of the match.

When Emil Forsberg was benched, Andre Silva stepped forward to shoot in 1-0 for the guests.

Real Sociedad goalkeeper Mathew Ryan went in the right direction and saved the penalty but released a return that Willi Orban could put his foot on.

Won 3-1

Andre Silva then had a third chance at scoring, but a last ditch challenge made sure that he didnt.

In the 64th minute Emil Forsberg was substituted and only a minute later Sociedad was able to reduce to 1-2.

In the hunt for an equalizer and extra time, the Norwegian national team star Alexander Sörloth was replaced by Sociedad, but the home team did not score a second goal but Forsberg, as in the first meeting, also scored a penalty.

1-3 was the final result and now awaits the round of 16 in the Europa League for Emil Forsberg and Leipzig.
