Among Anna-Carin Ahlquist's merits are above all the gold in the Paralympics 2012, as well as the home European Championships in Helsingborg 2019.

In total, she has won 19 championship medals since her debut at the European Championships in 2007. But above all, she ranks the Paralympics gold in 2012.

- It was clearly the biggest moment in my career.

Every time I think back on it, I get happy and emotional and being at the top of the podium is every athlete's biggest dream, says Anna-Carin Ahlquist in a press release.

Fought against breast cancer

Ahlquist suffers from the disease MS, which is the reason why she is wheelchair bound.

In addition, she suffered from breast cancer in 2019, but still won European Championship gold in 2019.

- All tales have an end and now even my fantastic national team saga has come to an end.

It's not without me shedding a few tears during the days when I made my decision but now it's time to say thank you - thank you to all the amazing people - friends, family, co-workers, sponsors, coaches, training partners, teammates and everyone else around around me who supported, peppered, trained, made sure I had the right conditions, helped me in all situations and was there to share both joy and sorrow with me, she says.

As recently as last autumn, she took silver at the Paralympics, in the team competition together with Ingela Lundbäck.
