Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel was not entirely satisfied despite his team's commanding first-leg victory in the Champions League round of 16.

"If the away goal rule still existed, that would be better," said Tuchel after the 2-0 (1-0) win over OSC Lille on Tuesday on BT Sport.

“Then we would have a really good cushion.

So it remains open because it's very difficult to play in Lille.

A very emotional audience.

The role will be strengthened again, that Lille as an outsider has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

We have to deliver again."

As of this season, away goals in the knockout stage of the Champions League no longer count as home goals.

"But at least we kept a clean sheet and we really deserved it."

German national soccer player Kai Havertz (8th minute) gave the Blues an early lead at Stamford Bridge.

Christian Pulisic (63rd) made the decision.

In between, outsiders Lille played well, but with a strong defensive performance Chelsea made sure that the French could hardly pose a threat.

"It was a lot of work not allowing any chances," said Tuchel in praise of his team.

“It was up and down, there were good moments and weak moments.

But we were stable.

It was hard teamwork.”

Before the League Cup final on Sunday against Liverpool, Tuchel is now worried about two of his players.

Both Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic limped off injured in the second half.

The extent of the injury was initially unknown.

"I don't know," said the Chelsea coach right after the game.

"I hope they will be ready on Sunday."

National coach Hansi Flick visits

National player Havertz drew additional motivation for his next top performance in a Chelsea shirt from the visit of national coach Hansi Flick.

"You always exchange ideas.

That's why we knew that the coaches were in the stadium today.

Of course, you're also happy to prove yourself a bit," said Havertz on Prime Video after the 2-0 win.

Havertz's early header goal in the eighth minute enabled Chelsea to take a more relaxed approach to the game before Flick's eyes, before former Dortmund player Pulisic increased.

Havertz was therefore also highly praised by Tuchel.

"I'm very happy for Kai, he's been very strong for weeks.

His commitment is immense, he works a lot," said the coach: "He was a decisive factor again, created opportunities and is never above defensive work."

Havertz started against Lille for the much-criticized star striker Romelu Lukaku from the start.

According to his own statement, the German feels comfortable in the center forward role.

"We have a lot of good strikers.

It might be good to change from time to time so as not to make it easy for the opponent," he said on BT Sport: "It worked well today.

But I like to play everywhere up front.”

The second leg against Lille will take place in France on March 16.
