A former German star takes a coaching position after losing a bet

Former German international Mario Basler took a coaching position with Turkgo Osnabrück, one of the amateur clubs in Germany's lower divisions, after losing a bet on a squash match.

"It is an honor for us to have Mario Basler working for us as a volunteer coach," Kaner Šivisiu, president of Turkgo Osnabrück, who hopes to have Basler for 18 months, told the Neue Osnabrück Zeitung newspaper.

The newspaper stated that Basler, 53, agreed to work with the current coach of the team, after losing a sports bet with a club member. As a coach, he took charge of teams such as Jan Risenburg, Eintracht Trier, Acker Burghausen and Rot Weiss Oberhausen.
