British police are questioning English winger Phil Foden, Manchester City player, and his mother, over a fight that took place last Saturday in a boxing bout between players Amir Khan and Brock's agent at a boxing ring in Manchester.

A video spread on social media showing the 21-year-old England international being verbally assaulted by a group of fans.

In the video, which included horrific footage, Claire, 41-year-old Phil Foden's mother, appeared to defend him and push one of the men who responded with a strong punch to her in the face in an altercation with some anonymous fans who were targeting her son.

Police said no complaints had been lodged, but that "further investigations are under way".

A source said that one of the men who offended Foden showed the accent of the residents of the city of Liverpool, while another group of "Bradford" insulted him repeatedly.

And the British newspaper "Daily Mail" revealed that the attack on Foden's mother was against the background of the team's loss to Tottenham 2-3 in a match in which Foden participated in a 90-minute start.

For its part, Man City issued a statement strongly condemning the abuse of Phil Foden and his family, and stated, "We are aware of a video clip circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused."

"We are shocked and appalled by the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on a member of the Phil family, and we will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need."

Premier League leaders Manchester City fell 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday, at the top of the 26th round of the English Premier League.
