English club Chelsea (the defending champion) won an easy victory over its French guest, Lille, 2-0, and approached qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Villarreal of Spain imposed a 1-1 draw at its guest, Juventus.

As part of the Champions League first leg matches, Chelsea welcomed Lille FC at Stamford Bridge in London.

The English team succeeded in outperforming its French rival, waiting for the return match between them at Lille, which is scheduled for next March 16.

Chelsea took the lead in the eighth minute through German Kai Havertz, before American Christian Polisic added the second goal in the 63rd minute.

Juventus stumbled

At La Ceramica, Villarreal hosted Juventus in a match that saw the Spanish club return to the Champions League knockout stages after a long absence.

Only 32 seconds after the start of the match, Juventus advanced with a goal through Serbian striker Dusan Vlavic, but Daniel Parejo equalized for Villarreal in the 66th minute.

The two teams will meet in the return match at Juventus Stadium on March 16th.
