Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine as independent states.

The geopolitical situation makes it doubtful whether it will be possible to hold sports events in Russia in the spring.

One of the competitions that can be moved is the end of the World Cup in Tiumen.

- There is a lot of uncertainty, so our responsibility is to prepare a potential plan B. But right now all upcoming competitions are planned to get rid of, says Fis (International Ski Federation) cross-country manager Pierre Mignerey.

If the competitions in Tiumen are moved, it could be to Östersund.

- They have previously been very positive about arranging length competitions, so if they get a specific question, they will definitely do their best to try to solve it, says Ola Strömberg.

What do you think about holding competitions in, and sending Swedes to, Russia in a month?

- It feels uncomfortable to compete in Russia given the geopolitical situation.

It would definitely be reasonable if Fis looked over whether it could be moved to another country, says Strömberg.
