Klara Lundquist, everyday in Södertälje, had felt weak and powerless lately and decided to check out what was wrong.

Then she was told that she had Graves' disease, a form of hyperthyroidism in which the immune system causes the thyroid gland to produce too many hormones.

- I did not think they would find something like this, but they did.

It is bad timing now that I have come to Södertälje and would help the team but you can not control it, she says to SVT Sport.

Lundquist came to Södertälje in January after breaking with his Polish club Arka Gdynia.

But the time in Södertälje barely had time to start before she ended up on the sidelines after the news of her illness.

The idea was that the season would then continue in the Washington Mystics in what would be her first season in the North American professional league WNBA.

But after a dialogue with the club, it is clear that the WNBA will have to wait until next season.

"Sad not to get the chance"

- I have started taking medicine and right now I'm just waiting for it to start working so I can come back as soon as possible.

But we agreed that it was too close and that I should focus on taking me back instead, she says.

Lundquist is tied for the Washington Mystics for two seasons from next and the hope is that she will join the team next year instead.

- They have to plan for their season, which meant that we made the decision already now because it was so uncertain whether I can play or not.

Then they postponed the contract until next year again, which they did last year as well.

It is also very sad not to get that chance.

But it will hopefully work next summer, she says.

Unclear with Södertälje

Whether there will be any more games in Södertälje this season is unclear with about a month left of the basic series.

- I take it a little day by day and week by week so we can see what the doctors recommend me to do, she says.

What does everyday life look like for you now that you can not play?

- I still try to go to the hall often and check out workouts and such.

I am not so affected by the disease in general, but it is more when I exercise.

I'm still studying so it's mostly basketball I can not complete.

It's on pause.
