The small municipality in southern Norway with 5,500 inhabitants is proud of its superstar who will now have his own work of art, beautiful sections with chainsaws in coarse tree trunks.

- When you come from Froland, it is difficult to come up with something that has nothing to do with Marte.

Her achievements are one thing, but the way she is and the way she represents her homeland makes us proud, says Tore Konnestad about the statue to NRK.

Olsbu Röiseland is proud of the attention and the wooden statue.

Squirrel statue vandalized

- It's great fun.

I feel lucky to have a hometown that appreciates what I do, she says.

There are already four wooden statues with squirrel motifs around Froland and one of them was named after Olsbu Röiseland even before the success in the Olympics.

One of them has been vandalized with a chainsaw and the idea is that the new statue, which will be ready within 14 days, will replace the old one.

The only medal miss for Olsbu Röiseland came in the women's relay where Norway finished fourth.
