At the end of a mysterious week, thanks to Robert Lewandowski, the football stars of FC Bayern averted a bitter bankruptcy against outsiders SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

When the 4:1 (0:1) against the bottom of the table was forced after the break and was too high in the end, the Munich series champions on Sunday in the Bundesliga topped the embarrassing performance of 2:4 in Bochum and the performance that was not ready for the title in the first last-minute averted defeat in the 1-1 Champions League round of 16 against RB Salzburg.

Branimir Hrgota initially duped Bayern in front of 25,000 allowed spectators with his deflected free-kick goal in the 42nd minute.

The Bayern engine was totally flooded in the first half, nothing worked.

But then the star ensemble around captain Thomas Müller pulled itself together and toiled through Lewandowski's 27th and 28th goals of the season (46th/82nd), an own goal by Sebastian Griesbeck (61st) and the goal by Eric-Maxim Choupo- Motive (90+1).

This mishap had already happened to the defender at 1: 3 in the first leg.

The brave people of Fürth had to struggle with bad luck two more times: First, Max Christiansen missed the 2-2 with a long-range shot at the outside of the post (67th).

Shortly thereafter, Marco Meyerhöfer also shot the goal from an acute angle (71').

Sluggish, uninspired, flawed - in the first really bad week under coach Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern were on the verge of giving new impetus to the lame fight for the championship.

For a long time nothing went against well-organized and united defending Fürth.

A shot on goal by Thomas Müller in the arms of Fürth goalkeeper Andreas Linde in injury time was the entire result of the offensive efforts in the first half.

Nagelsmann stood stunned on the sidelines.

Fürth lurked, countered boldly and struck at a free kick.

Marcel Sabitzer, who turned in the wall, deflected Hrgota's shot into his own goal with his knee.

Previously, both teams each lost a midfielder to injury, Bayern's Corentin Tolisso, Fürth's Jeremy Dudziak.

In the half-time break, plain text must have been spoken in the Munich dressing room.

It only took 30 seconds for the ball to land in the Fürther goal for the first time.

Dayot Upamecano hit a long ball into the box at Serge Gnabry, whose pass from the baseline reached Lewandowski at the far post.

The goalscorer completed.

The defender Upamecano, who was much criticized recently, also initiated the successful attack for the second goal.

Müller's cross rebounded from Griesbeck's leg into the goal.

It was already the fifth Fürth own goal this season.

There was little to be seen of sovereignty and game control at Bayern afterwards.

The Fürth continued to act courageously and committed - but just luckless.

Lewandowski nodded off a corner kick to make it 3-1 before Choupo-Moting scored the final score.
