It is 24 years since Jamaica last lined up with a four-man team in the Olympic bobsled.

This time they finished 21st out of a total of 32 competitors.

But speaking of Jamaican bob, most people probably think of the unforgettable races during the Calgary Olympics in 1988 when they charmed an entire world.

The event also inspired the Hollywood film "Cool Runnings" in 1993.

For the first time ever, Jamaica had qualified with a bubble team for the Olympics and the uproar was great.

In the third run, they overturned and crashed violently.

No one was seriously injured and the four team members went the last bit over the finish line, at the same time as they received standing ovations from the audience.

Made the queen laugh

So last night they were back in the four-man bob again.

Shanwayne Stephens was a pilot and was assisted by Rolando Reid, Ashley Watson and Matthew Wekpe.

- It is everyone's dream to be able to represent their country and we are here and living that dream, Stephens said earlier this week after competing in a two-man bob.

The team has also made allusions to the cult film "Cool Runnings".

Matthew Wekpe, for example, carries around a plastic egg, a wink to the character "Sanka" in the film.

In addition, they have recorded a song that begins with the text line: "We are not just a movie".

Pilot Shanwayne Stephens also received headlines ahead of the Olympics as he has, among other things, trained by pushing around his fiancée's car on the roads in Peterborough, England, where he lives.

- Yes, it's a way to train, Queen Elizabeth laughed during a video call with Stephens.

Finished last in both runs

That Jamaica has made it to the Olympics is an achievement in itself, but in terms of results, nothing went further tonight.

The team is by far the last of the 28 teams after two runs (out of four, the other two will run tomorrow) and is a full 5.19 seconds behind the leader.

They are also over one and a half seconds behind the Italian team that is second to last.

Despite this, the team offered happy faces and waved to the audience after the finish.

Shanwayne Stephens turned to the television cameras and formed a heart with his hands.

In the lead, it is triple German among the top four.

Favorite Francesco Friedrich's team leads ahead of Johannes Lochner and Justin Kripps (Canada) in third place.

Christoph Hafer is four.

The final two runs run tomorrow starting at 02.30.

For Jamaica, it will be just one more ride.
